SHOOTING STARS - NAGAREBOSHI
Friday, December 14, 2012

I’ve longed for a good Japanese drama (J-Drama) for what seems like ages and ages ago. Rindu zaman-zaman sekolah menengah masa kat Convent dulu. Sangat banyak good drama in market. TV3 masa tu pun selalu sangat tayang J-Drama every weekends. I even bought my own cd box set sebab jenis yang tak sabar untuk tunggu like 2 months for one drama to wrap up. I miss those good old days.

Honestly I have lost my interest in J-Drama recently. Kenapa? Sebab entahlah, rasanya J-Drama dah hilang the magic. Dulu, semua plot-plot cerita rasanya lebih rasional dan menarik. Sekarang? No more. Banyak sangat cerita yang adapted from comics (mangas). Semua benda kalau boleh nak tiru bulat-bulat from mangas. Daripada hair style, fashion, semualah. Adakah sebab dah tua so tak boleh terima cerita-cerita yang macamtu? Tapi benda ni happened way back when I was 19 years old. So faktor umur definitely bukan sebabnya =). Haha.

Having said that, it gives me a renewed faith that there is actually a good, meaningful and worth to watch J-Drama out there and not just some mediocre-rating drama that exists just purely for the sake of producing a live-action drama version of mangas that are available nowadays.

N A G A R E B O S H I

Also known as SHOOTING STARS in English. Can we just pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?

 P L O T

Takenouchi Yutaka (reminds me why I had a crush on him in the first place when I saw him in With Love some time in 1998-1999) plays Okada Kengo, an aquarium technician whose sister is in desperate need of a liver. His mom begged the relatives and his fiancée, who is technically almost family and none of them are willing to help.

Meanwhile, Ueto Aya plays Makihara Risa, a young woman working in the sex trade in order to pay off her brother's debt.

When they first met. Glowing jellyfish is so beautiful.

Risa met Kengo for the first time at the aquarium. Betul-betul depan jellyfish aquarium. I super like this scene. Nicely shot, great scenery, beautiful theme song. Perfect combo! The third time they met, both sebenarnya full of despair. Risa dengan problem good for nothing brother dan dia in return kena bayar all her brother’s debt and she was even dumped by her boyfriend after learning where she works. Besides, Kengo is also hopeless searching for the liver donor.

Risa’s situation has led her to contemplate suicide. And Kengo happened to see Risa’s suicide attempt. Dan dia cuba halang Risa. End up, they enter the contract marriage purely for their own benefits.

 C O M M E N T S

Thanks to Nagareboshi, at least I know that in Japan one cannot donate a part of his/her own liver unless he/she is somehow related to the donee. Or maybe sebenarnya Malaysia pun guna pendekatan yang sama?

The reason? Of course, purely ethical. Considering the fact that both parties desperate, it can easily turn into a business deal.

Cerita ni in terms of development, I mean love development, quite slow. But, I just love love love the slow development of their relationship. I love how they showed in the beginning Kengo is a person who is always reserved and keeps his emotion in check. And then to see him slowly open up and be so honest and expressive with Risa is wonderful. It's also wonderful to see Risa fall in love with him.

Ryuusei : Kobukuro

One of the most important elements that made the drama as good as I think it is, is that the theme song was very well-picked. It blends well with the entire mood of the drama which focuses on despair, self-discovery and pureness of a heart which kind of lifted the spirit of the drama even more.

I love Risa's effort to change to a better person. I just love her character development. And how she opens the door of the heart in such a way that is suited to it. Dan yang paling sedih as for me, she knows in what situation she actually is. Hmppph, walaupun dia mula sayang, tapi she won't admit. Sebab dia tahu dia siapa.

Cerita ni full of emotions. Adults love. Bukan jenis-jenis cinta remaja yang cliché. Yang ending perlu ada I love you, do u love me? Nop. It’s nothing like that. Just by the look in the eyes already enough to say how much they are important to one another.

I love the story, love the sadness, love the love, love the expressions, love the lines, love the chemistry, love the madness, love the tears, love the anxiousness, love the speculation, love the curiosity, love the jellyfish, I even love the sleepless nights, just because of Nagareboshi =)

Kirei desu ne? (Cantik kan?) Kalau Kengo bagi benda ni, sumpah I stay by his side forever. Hehe.

One of Kengo-Risa sweet moments. Hmpph, a night before she moved to another place since their business is done. Sigh, so much love in this scene, yet so much pain inside.

The most memorable scene ever.

Hmm. It is such a heartwarming love story where the beauty of a pure and honest heart precedes everything else. By the way, drama ni dah lama, 2010. I watched online masa dia mula-mula keluar sampai tak tidur malam. Hehe. Now rasa nak tengok balik, sebab orang kata ambik mood dulu before berjimba di negara matahari terbit. Soon. Very soon. :)
