NAMDAEMUN, GWANJANG MARKET & DONGDAEMUN (DAY 6)
Monday, March 26, 2012

Shopping is an integral part of travel. Bila travel, you are tempted to purchase few goodies, no? Purchasing few items like macam tops, clothes or small handicraft is OK, at least for me. Ada yang kata, eh dia ni nak travel ke nak shopping? Tapi, kalau you boleh travel and shop together, then why not?

Kadang-kadang, if you are lucky enough to be in those countries during sales season, you can do incredible shopping, without paying a lot. Kadang-kadang jugak, some items tu way cheaper bila you beli kat sana daripada beli kat tanah air tercinta ni. So again, why not?

Ok sebenarnya I’ve received an email from CIK-ANNE, tanya pasal Korean Silk. Hehe. Takpe, you can ask anything. Sebagai seorang gegirl, I faham. Kalau dah namanya ke Korea tu, mesti orang akan tanya;

Eh, tak beli Korean Silk ke? Korean brooch? Korean cotton?
Hehehe. BTW, thanks for reading my blog =). I’ll reply here so that others can read as well. Sorry main langkah-langkah my travel journal ni. Day 2 pun tak habis cerita lagi now kita pergi to Day 6. Haha.

I’ve bought this (orange colour) Korean cotton back in 2010. Dah selamat jadi baju kurung hehe.

11 FEBRUARY 2012

Ini adalah my breakfast everyday. Susu pisang. Pantang sangat. Asal lalu convenience store, mesti beli. MESTI. Kadang-kadang tu, dalam sehari 3 kali terbeli. Haha. Selalunya I’ve bought two, satu simpan dalam handbag, satu lagi buat breakfast. Soooo yummy.

COST 1,200KRW

Harini, we decided to just SHOP. Shop till you drop katanya. Haha. Cik Kiah sangat kan. Datang jauh-jauh pergi shopping? Haha. But as I said earlier, kalau boleh buat dua benda dalam satu masa, then why not kan.

So, if it’s time to indulge in some retail therapy, there are few places that you can go;

MYEONGODNG
I like Myeongdong the most, tapi ni nanti cerita sebab we stayed at Namsan 2 Guesthouse, keluar je dua tiga langkah dah nampak Myeongdong shopping street. So memang hari-hari pergi Myeondong ni menghabiskan Korean won yang sememangnya ciput je bawak tu. Ramai youngsters here. Lebih kurang macam Bukit Bintang, tapi kedai-kedia dia more on high end stores and banyak sangat skin care shops kat sini.

NAMDAEMUN
Boleh beli souvenirs here. Cheaper. Handicrafts banyak. Segala macam jenis barang ada jual. Memang murah. Jual baju pun longgok-longgok je.

DONGDAEMUN
Kalau nak beli Korean cotton or silk, boleh datang sini. Tapi I recommend beli Korean cotton je kat sini. Sebab cute comel and corak dia susah nak jumpa kat Malaysia.

GWANJANG MARKET
Segala mak nenek kain ada kat sini. Tapi yang paling famous Korean Silk. Mahal pun boleh tahan. But I think the price is fixed. Tak boleh nak tawar-tawar mcm kita beli kat Pasar Siti Khadijah. Hahaha.

There are few other shops, but I just tulis yang atas ni je sebab ini tempat yang we all pergi masa Day 6. Nak pergi semua kedai kalau, memang tak balik Malaysia la sebab tak cukup masa.

So destinasi pertama hari tu adalah Namdaemun Market. I think dia bukak awal pagi maybe around 8.00am? This place for me is a living maze. Banyak lorong-lorong. Ada banyak gate. We all masuk ikut gate #4. Sebenarnya nak cari gate #5, tapi macam biasa, sesat barat. Masuk je lah yang mana boleh masuk.

NAMDAEMUN MARKET

Hoehyon Station
Exit #5
There is so much to see and buy. Anything you could want plus stuff you don’t actually need. So cute I nampak baju for little puppy. Haha. Winter jacket, tops semua longgok-longok tau. I beli satu . Harga? 10,000KRW. So so so cheap. RM30 je uols. Bukan baju bodoh-bodoh tau. Senang cerita, ni ha bajunya;

Hahaha, itu bukan kat Time Square, New York occay. Somewhere in South Korea. Aiins World (miniature world). Baju yang biru tu lah 10,000KRW.

Tu semua longgokan baju. Pandai-pandaila punggah cari baju size sendiri. One thing yang kena ingat, orang-orang Korea so slim and thin. Kalau tengok peha diorang pun, mak aii keciknya. Makan apa pun tatau boleh jadi lagutu. Tiba-tiba teringatkan peha sendiri yang erm. Haih kena diet dengan gigih.

Winter boots jugak murah. My friend sambar satu. I dah beli ugg boot kat Myengdong subway dengan harga 15,000KRW. Benci sebab beli awal-awal. Kat Namdaemun ni cheaper. Rasanya 8,000KRW kot dia dapat.

Kasut kiddos pun murah. Range harga memang start from 10,000KRW. Pandai-pandai la gunakan your bargaining power kat sini. Pandai tawar, makin murah dapat. Contoh ayat tawar-tawar yang sampai sekarang I ingat;

Ahjusshi (uncle) / Ahjumma (aunt), gga gga ju-se-yo (sebutan: kaka juseyo) or dalam bahasa orang putih nya, Uncle, discount please!
T-shirt yang tulis I love Korea tu semua kat sini 3 pasang 10,000KRW untuk white shirt. Kalau colour hitam or any other colours, harga dia lain sikit. Souvenirs semua pakat beli kat sini je, tak payah pergi tempat lain sebab kat sini memang murah.

Selain daripada tu, Korean brooches pun ada jual kat sini. Just tengok-tengok je. Tak beli pun. Sebab tak pakai sangat. Tapi just in case kalau nak cari,

e-LENGDANG MARKET (Brooch)

Hoehyon Station
Exit #5
Nanti akan nampak building green colour , nama building ni e-Lengdang Market
Pergi 2nd Floor, kedai tu #209
Then, strawberries and buah-buahan lain pun boleh beli kat sini. I beli satu kotak strawberry harga dalam 5,000KRW. Sambil jalan sambil makan. Memang best. Strawbery dia manisss sangat ok. Tiba-tiba terus teringatkan abah sebab dia kalau pergi holidays, pantang nampak orang jual buah, dia mesti beli. Hehe. Senang nak pergi toilet katanya. Erkk. Proses penghadaman gitu.

Ahjumma ni jual benda kaler merah tu (totbouki), we bought one packet and kongsi ramai-ramai. I don’t really like it. Hehe. Makan sekadar makan nak rasa je. Haha. Tapi my friends yang fefeeling Korean memang berselera sungguh makannya. Hehehe. Dia macam ricecake salut dengan cili boh tu je. Tak sedap.

Lepas dah habis beli barang-barang kat sini, kami pergi pulak Gwanjang Market. And this is a place to hunt for a traditional Korean food and silk. Strike-off the food sebab memang tak beli pun. Tapi banyak sangat stalls yang jual bibimbap, ramyun and macam-macam lagilah. Market ni dia macam ada wet market and dry market. All the fabrics, silks, textiles semua ada dekat dry market. The perfect escape from Seoul's brand name fashion carnivals.

GWANJANG MARKET

Jongno-5-ga station, Line 1
Exit #8
Ada satu kedai dekat dalam Gwanjang Market ni memang so popular among Malaysian. Nama dia Hyun Woo Silk. Mula-mula kami dah sesat entah ke mana-mana. Mana taknya, the textile shops look pretty much identical. Haha. Rasanya kan, Gwanjang Market ni ada 2 level. So, since sampai-sampai dah nampak penuh kedai makan je kat bawah ni, we all naik atas. Sebab kat atas ni nampak berjenis sikit penuh dengan kedai kain. Hehe. Tapi mostly kedai kain yang jual hanbok (baju tradisional korea) and silk. Tapi plain silk. So memang sesat barat kat atas tu duk mencari Hyun Woo Silk. Then, ada Korean yang nampak we all macam lost, terus bawak kami pergi Hyun Woo Silk. Dia tak tanya pun mana nak pergi, terus suruh follow dia. Haha. I think dia tahu we all Malaysian. And maybe ramai sangat orang yang sesat dia pernah bawak kot? Hmm, Hyun Woo Silk tu kat 1st floor ya. So memang la tak jumpa sebab we all dah tersasar jauh kat 2nd floor. Haha.

Perhaps this address may be of use to you as it has to us. Erkk. NOT REALLY. But then, maybe boleh try call dulu, and arrange someone untuk tunggu dekat entrance. Easier.

HYUN WOO SILK
#187, 188 1F Kwang Jang, Textile Dept 6-1, Yejidong Jongroku, Seoul, Korea
Tel : 22660169 HP : 011-2760169

I’ve been here once in 2010. Tapi serious lupa macam mana nak ke sini sebab time tu ada guide yang bawa. Nothing has changed. Even the owner pun maintain pakai baju yang sama ok. He can speak English and a little Malay.

Plain silk : 66,000KRW (cash)
Corak-corak punya silk : 80,000 (cash)
Kalau pakai credit card, additional 10% dia akan charge

Well, none of the above ended in my shopping bag. Thank God. Haha. My budget was too little sebab I punya plan gila travel banyak sangat this year. So memang tak mampu nak habiskan duit beli silk ni walaupun hati macam meronta-ronta je nak? Haha. Boleh buat raya ok. Mampu ke pakai baju raya from Korea? Sob sob. Bertabah je la. So I tak duduk lama pun dalam kedai ni. My friends duk pilih-pilih apa yang patut, so I ajak yang jenis taknak beli apa-apa ni keluar pusing-pusing kat luar, cuci mata kata orang.

So, ni antara kedai-kedai yang ada kat luar. Shoplots with some not bigger than a closet. Korean sell kain ela by yard except Hyun Woo Silk, they cut it by metres. Itupun sebab this shop caters for Malaysian. So you can do maths now, 4 metres sama dengan berapa yards. Senang just in case ada terberkenan kain-kain yang kat luar ni.

Ni kain kat atas ni I bought for bibik, tapi my mom nak. Sebab initially memang beli untuk my mom Korean cotton. Tapi dia tamau. Haha. So dia ambil bibik punya, bibik ambil dia punya. Yang mana satu? Yang paling kanan, atas sekali tu. Colours combo dia cantik kan. Yang ni murah je. 10,000 KRW for 5 yards, non-silk. Tatau kain jenis apa. Tapi lembut. Banyak je kedai-kedai kecik macamni. Sepanjang jalan dalam Gwanjang Market ada. Even cotton pun ada tau, 5 yards jugak dah siap potong, I beli yang kaler orange dekat my first picture posted above ni kat sini la. 15,000KRW masa beli dulu. Now cotton pun dah 10,000KRW. Murah dik non. Rambang mata uols masuk sini. Nak-nak yang duit jenis berkepuk. Hehe.

Semua dah macam kehabisan duit dah ni. Ada sorang tu borong bukan main banyak. Haha. Beli baju untuk kawen katanya. Untuk pakcik makcik pak menakan mak menakan. Haih. Ni belum pergi Dongdaemun lagi ni. Dongdaemun actually walking distance je dengan Gwanjang Market. Getting around taxi would be ideal, sebab barang borongan dah banyak. It’s faster (when there’s no traffic jams of course) and less tiring on the feet. Tapi ongkosnya gimana? So naik je la subway kalau dah malas sangat nak berjalan. Hehe

DONGDAEMUN MARKET (Brooch)

Dongdaemun Station
Exit #9
Tengok building kat depan tu, nama dia Dongdaemun Shopping Complex
Terus pergi floor 2-5 kalau nak beli Korean cotton

Ni directory Dongdaemun Shopping Complex for your easy reference.

Sini pun ada plain silk. Tak tanya pulak harga berapa. Almost the same kot.

Si Azie tu yang nak kahwin this coming April, so I cakap kat dia, apa kata kau buat baju kawen cam atas ni. Hahaha. Baru laa meriah kan uols. Tak ke? Kekeke.

Ni antara kain cotton yang I sempat snap. So cute kan. Nampak muda gitu kalau pakai. Muda ke masalahnya? Whateverlah, janji colour tu cantik. Hehe.

Cotton price : 5,000KRW - 6,000KRW per yard

Haritu I tak ingat beli berapa yard. I minta tolong they all convertkan to 4 metres.

Cantikk sangat ok. Kalau kat IKEA ni dah berapa harganya. So, belila 1 yard untuk buat 2 pillow case for my car. Ni hasilnya after dah siap jahit.

Nanti sambung lunch kat Itaewon, and night shopping at Myengdong and jalan-jalan kat 63 building. Semua hari yang sama. Gigih kan.

To be continued, again =D
